| Project Description
The Game Design program at the George Brown College, School of Design is currently developing a video game modification (mod) called ‘City 7: Toronto Conflict.’ Based on the critically acclaimed Half-Life 2 (HL2) game, City 7 is an accurate virtual reproduction of Toronto. Environments of the city are merged with a fan based story line that complements the Half-Life universe. Initially a prototype, students virtualized landmarks of Toronto such as Dundas Square, Eaton Centre, the TTC Subway System, Massey Hall and St. Michael’s Hospital. Since the release of City 7 V1, the mod has developed a widespread fan-base in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and the Half-Life 2 international community.
Project Details
With a core of graduates (funded through sponsorship), current game design students, and volunteers, The School of Design plans to implement the next phase of the Toronto Conflict project. Players will explore new virtual areas of the city such as Front St, Union station, the CN tower and the P.A.T.H. (an underground series of malls and shopping centers located in heart of downtown Toronto), while enhancing the projects current virtual areas, (Dundas square, Mel Lastman square, TTC subway system and Yonge St.), with improved graphics and new level design.
We need our sponsorship
George Brown College believes that the city is the classroom, and that the metropolis is a vast enterprise for exploring creativity. Supporting Toronto’s emerging game industry is part our vision to connect with the community. ‘City 7: Toronto Conflict’ is great opportunity to put Toronto’s game industry in the spot light as well as to support graduates and students who have receive their education in Ontario.
The School of Design plans to complete this project by raising sponsorship funds for graduates and to continue the project with the support of current game design students, volunteers and Game Design faculty. The team will continue to virtualize new areas of Toronto by surveying, documenting and referencing the city while continuing building an asset library of Toronto. Assets created by this project will aid city planners, architects and emergency services in future planning. Sponsors will have direct access to the 3d models of levels and Toronto props.
With your support and sponsorship, City 7: Toronto Conflict will be a unique mod that will inspire HL2 fans, gamers and more importantly, Canadians, Torontonians and the local emerging industry.
