CITY 7: Toronto Conflict

Our George Brown College student team has recently released City 7 V1 Freeman. Initially a prototype, students made their city the class room, as an all encompassing thesis project. Ambitious goals and design aspirations were tailored to fit the time constraints of the thesis project. The main character remained Gordon Freeman (The main character of HL2) and the narrative revolved around him finding a way home after unexpectedly being transported to a post-apocalyptic Toronto. V1 was an alternate take on events that take place in HL2. By using a pre-existing character, the focus was to design unique levels and accurate virtual representations of various Toronto landmarks (Dundas Square, Eaton Centre, the TTC Subway System, Massey Hall and St. Michael’s Hospital) rather than creating an original Toronto storyline.

  • Moved and shrunk triggers that made soldier spawn
  • Disabled the respawning of soldiers from these triggers
  • Added rocket caches to kill the boss
  • Most soldier triggers are based around the rocket caches
  • Removed most health and shield resupplies on walls
  • Kept all health and shield supply boxes around the level
